LIFE, It Goes On

Inspired by Noah And The Whale’s L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N., also intended in the form of a song.

Belly of a Whale

“From the belly of the whale
To the foreclosed homes on sale,”
A pretty girl tells me as I just look and stare
But she seems not to mind, she seems not to care.
“Life goes on,”
She tells me, and I tell her of her I am fond.

Life. L-I-F-E. Oh, life.

“From the stock market drop
To our generation’s lack of sock-hops,
There are worse things than loving you,”
A pretty girl tells me with her denim eyes of blue.
“Life, oh sweet life, it goes on,”
She tells me, holding out her hand and then we’re gone.

Life. L-I-F-E. Oh, life.

“From Ohio sports teams
To the neighbor’s unfulfilled dreams,
The drip, drip, drip of the kitchen faucet
To that sweet heart’s uncoordinated hips,
There are worse things than loving you,”
She tells me after five years in front of church pews.

“Life, oh sweet life, it goes on,”
I tell denim blue eyes, whom I am fond.
“Life. L-I-F-E. Oh, life.
It goes on,” I tell my wife.
